Luau,Happy Hour & Golf--Mar.23-26

Hemet California March 23rd--30th

March 23rd
We did some grocery shopping in the morning and went for a swim in the pool in the afternoon.
John and Lynda Brooks arrived at 2:30p.m. from Yuma. We invited them for supper.

March 24th
We spent a relaxing day by the pools. Sixteen of us including the Brooks went to the Hawaiian Luau at the Palms Cabana at 4pm. Everything was decorated near the pools with Tiki statues,
torches, lanterns etc. It was beautiful. Mai Tai's were $2.00 each. We danced to a Hawaiian singer and had a very tasty Hawaiian meal. After dinner we were entertained by a show of three Hulu dancers and a male fire dancer. Lots of fun.

March 25th
I prepared a bunch of appetizers and had 14 people over for happy hour. Ron and Marlene Annala came over. It was a beautiful day. After supper we played shuffleboard with the Brooks. GVP has a indoor shuffleboard building with 8 lanes and spectator stands allowing us to play in the evening. Most resorts have outdoor shuffleboards courts.

March 26th (Happy 2nd Birthday Annika)
We went to Echo Hills golf course with the Brooks. We walked the 9 hole course with a pull cart
$12.00 each. Good exercise. Very warm 27 DegC. Our beautiful granddaughter Annika is now sitting up on her own(a great birthday gift).

Sat March 27th (Happy 84th Birthday Mom)
We walked around the Hemet Farmers' Market with the Brooks. Afterwards we drove out to the Winchester Market. Very interesting--mostly Mexican vendors with all their beans and legumes. We said goodbye to Ron and Marlene Annala. They leave tomorrow for Calgary. We visited with Karen & Dave and Jack & Marlene.

March 28th
The Brooks came with us to San Diego, leaving at 7:30am(1.5 hours form Hemet). We took a 2 hour harbour cruise at 10:00am. It was thoroughly enjoyable--thank goodness there was a bit of a breeze from the water because it was around 31 Deg. C. There were lots of aircraft carriers
(Nimitz,Ronald Regan), two submarines,a cruise ship, sea lions etc in the harbour. The Midway retired aircraft carrier was there. We will tour it another time. San Diego is the 2nd largest navel base in the USA. We had fish and chips on the waterfront. We drove across the 2.1 mile bridge to Coronado Island. Thousands of people were on the beach. We dipped our toes in the Pacific Ocean. Very cold. We got back to Hemet about 6:30pm.

March 29th
Another very hot day over 30 Deg. C. I laid around the pool and read while waiting for the laundry to dry. We are getting hummingbirds around our bird feeder. We stopped by Dave and Karen's(Leduc, Alberta) RV site before supper. We played shuffleboard with the Brooks.

March 30th
The Brooks picked us up and drove 1 hour north of Hemet past Beaumont to the hillside area Oak Glenn apple ranches. Beautiful mountain countryside with apple trees coming into blossom.
We had lunch at Apple Annie's Restaurant and stopped at different gift and craft stores. We bought some apple cider and fudge. We continued driving by the many orange, grapefruit, lemon orchards. They were hanging with fruit. We stopped and had a beer at San Jacinto Legion.
We played shuffleboard after supper. (Boys 5 games girls 1)

Hemet California March 17th-22nd

March 17th Happy St Patrick's Day
We enjoyed a very relaxing and hot 85 Deg. F day around the three swimming pools and hot tubs surrounded by gorgeous flowers, birds of paradise, and palm trees . We had lunch at the Palm Cafe near the pool while listening to music of a good singer (everyday 11am to 2pm). Of course we wore green today.
Life is good!!

March 18th
Jack and Marlene and two other couples invited us to go golfing at Menifee Lakes Golf and Country Club. It is a beautiful course with lots of lakes, hazzards, hills and bunkers-- 18 holes with electric cart cost $35.00 each. The women played together with the men following us. Lois(Marlene's sister) and Ron (John Brook's former boss) had us over for happy hour after golf.

March 19th
We had breakfast at the resort for $4.00 before driving to the Desert Hills Factory Outlet Stores.Ralph and I did lots of shopping from 10am to 3pm. After shopping we drove another 40 minutes to Indio for a Mexican happy hour with margueritas with the Regans,Tedds and 4 other couples. It was a great day with friends. Very hot 32 Deg. C /90 Deg. F. We were back to Hemet by 9pm.

March 20th
We did some grocery shopping at Wal Mart in the morning. I prepared some food for Sunday.
Ron and Lois invited us for dinner. We had a delicious meal with 14 other people. The evenings are now longer and warmer.

March 21st
The Regans and Tedds drove over from Indio arriving at 8:30am. We left in two trucks with the 2 dogs for Temecula (1/2 hour southwest of Hemet). We went to Old Town Temecula with lots of shops and bands playing bluegrass music. We toured some of the Temecula wineries with wine tasting and fresh baked loaves of bread with Brie cheese. Yummy!!!It is a very good wine area and very picturesque. After a full day in the Temecula area, the six of us came back to our place for supper--pulled pork on buns with salads (Sherryl ,the Zea's spinach salad was great). It was another very warm day. At 8pm we said good-bye to the Regans and Tedds. They leave Indio for home in a week's time.

March 22nd
I did laundry and lounged around the pool area--swimming and reading. Ralph visited our neighbours from Calgary, Ron and Marlene Annala. They have been in Golden Village Palms since November and just got back on Saturday from a Mexican Riviera Cruise out of San Diego. I had talked to Marlene earlier by the pool.We are looking forward to John & Lynda Brooks arrival at GVP tomorrow.

Indio and Hemet, California March 8th to 16th

March 8th --- Happy 60th Jean & Birthday Linda O.
We said our good bye's to our neighbours at Golden Sun. We drove 5 hours to Indio (near Palm Springs), California. We are booked in at Indian Wells RV Resort for a week. We are 2 sites down from our friends Brian and Shirley Regan. We had happy hour at Graham and Margaret Tedd's with 14 others from Calgary.

March 9th was windy and warm 74 Deg. F. Shirley, Margaret and I walked around the resort--lots of green grass, palm trees and beautiful flowers. We went swimming afterwards. Ralph,Brian and Graham walked across the highway to Costco to check out prices on liquor,$15.99 for 1.75 litres of Bacardi rum($52.00 in Calgary). Happy hour was next door at Mike and Sandra's.

Wednesday, we golfed 18 holes at Ivey Ranch Country Club $67.00 for 2 with electric cart. It was a lot of fun but the last 6 holes was very windy. We stopped at Costco to buy some liquor on the way home. In the evening our group of 16 went to see entertainment at the Resort.

Thursday Ralph borrowed Shirley's bicycle. Brian,Graham and Ralph rode 13 miles along the flower-lined boulevards of Indio. I went swimming and read my book. Happy hour was at the Regan's.

March 12th we went shopping at Wal Mart. After going to the pool in the afternoon we had everyone (16)over for happy hour.

Saturday we had coffee and doughnuts in the resort ballroom. We went swimming while waiting for laundry to be done. It was hamburgers for lunch on the patio. After happy hour at Howard and Janet's we all went to the free dance 7:30 to 10:30 pm. Good music and entertainers.

March 14th (daylight savings time). Eight of us met at IHOP for breakfast at 7:30 am. We went to the College of the Desert Market in Palm Springs until noon. It was cooler and less crowded for shopping. The afternoon temperatures got to be over 80 Deg. F. We stopped at Costco on the way home. Ralph and I walked to Shields Date Farm for date shakes and watched "The Romance and Sex Life of the Date" video. It is a tedious process to pollinate date palm trees. We cooled off in the swimming pool before going to dinner hosted by the Tedd's and Regan's---delicious appetizers,BBQ ribs, salads and cheese cake.

Monday March 15th
A fun week at Indio has gone by very quickly. We are off to Hemet, CA just 1.5 hour drive to the next valley. It was like "coming home " to Golden Village Palms RV Resort. We stayed at GVP two years ago. It is one of our favorite resorts--large sites with hedges, trees, etc. Our rv site is close to all 3 pools and the main activity areas. After setting up camp on a very hot day 82 Deg. F we went to a resturant for supper.

Tue. March 16th I got Mom's and Annika's birthday and Easter gifts ready to mail. We drove to the post office. This afternoon we enjoyed very hot temperatures 82-84 Deg. F. Friends we made 2 years ago Jack and Marlene Garlough(Leduc,Alberta)are across the street from us at GVP. Today I am doing "catch up" on our journal and blog.
