HEMET, CA April 8TH--15TH

April 8th
Very hot day 88 Deg. F/31Deg C. We tried cooling off in the swimming pool. We had Jack & Marlyne and Ron & Lois over for a roast beef dinner. They stayed until 10 Pm.It was a enjoyable warm evening with good people.

April 9th
We said good-bye to Jack and Marlyne (Leduc,AB). We had breakfast at the resort (every Friday morning 8-9 am).We went swimming in the hot 80 Deg F weather. After the wine and cheese reception we went to the Friday night suffleboard tournament. Ralph got the most points and Marie got the booby prize.

April 10th
We went to the Winchester market and enjoyed a taco and churro for lunch. We bought some beef jerky. In the evening,we went to see the movie"Clash of the Titans" $7.00.

April 11th
Cooler today about 70 Deg. F. We left after 9 am to drive just under 2 hours south to Julian
(4000 feet up in the mountains). We drove through the hills, mountains and valleys on very winding roads-- very pretty countryside. Julian was first known for its gold during the California gold rush but it is now known for it's apple pies. It's a quaint town with alot of historic buildings.
We watched a gunfight skit and had delicious apple pie a la mode. After driving back a different way through Ramona and Escondido,we were back at GVP for supper.

April 12th
It rained heavy during the night and day. We went to the Hemet Mall to get my nails done and have a pedicure. Ralph got his hair cut. It is much cheaper in the USA than Canada. On the way home we stopped at Target.

April 13th
I had my hair cut, colored, and foiled. Ralph went to Walmart. We shopped at Sears too. Cooler but no rain today. Ralph hit some golf balls at the resort's putting green while I lounged around the pool and read.

April 14(Happy Birthday,Marie)
Thank you all for the phone calls and e-mail birthday wishes. We had lunch by the pool, listened to music and relaxed. We went to the Soboba Springs Golf Course for supper---beautiful golf course and facility. Afterwards we went to the Soboba Casino to try our luck at the slots. Ralph was the lucky one tonight.

April 15th
We said goodbye to Ron and Lois(Calgary). Our month was up today March 15th to April 15th,but we decided to stay another week. The resort had booked our site 629 out (200 Tiffin motor coaches are coming in Sunday to assigned spots). To accomadate us for the inconvenience of moving, the resort's management gave us a elite site 665 on the other side of the pool area at a extremely low rate $21.50 per day(normal rate $60-70 per day) It is a larger site with lots of flowering bushes and trees across from all the amenities. It is beautiful spot. We spent the day moving and relaxing by the pool.

Hemet March 31---April 7th

March 31
A bit cooler amd overcast today 16 Deg. C. I bought a golf cart at Big 5 Sports and also shopped at Wal Mart. I uploaded pictures to the computer and blog while John and Ralph went playing pool.
We went to Spud night with the Brooks. It was like a community pot luck with $2.00 potatoes.
We played shuffleboard after dinner.

April 1st (April Fools Day)
I cleaned all our inside windows while Ralph went shopping for rye. John, Lynda, Ralph and I
went golfing in the afternoon at Echo Hills. It's a nice 9 hole golf course and my new cart worked great.

April 2nd ( Good Friday)
Ralph and I drove 1.5 hours to Carlsbad on the California coast. We toured The Flower Fields
at Carlsbad Ranch--- 50 acres of Ranunculus flowers(a member of the buttercup family).
We took a John Deer Tractor ride and also walked through the hillside fields of vibrant colors
(open March 1st to May 9th when the flowers are in bloom). It is the worlds largest supplier of Ranunculus bulbs. There was also a sweet pea maze,a rose garden of over 170 prize winning varieties,a pointsetta green house and much more. What a gorgeous sight!!!
We stopped at Carlsbad Factory Outlet Stores and then drove back a different route to Hemet. We drove through Oceanside,San Juan Capistrano and the winding roads through the mountains to Lake Ellisnore. Great day 75-80 Deg.F.

April 3rd
We went golfing at Echo Hills with the Brooks and Dave & Karen Corbett(Leduc). The Corbetts had us for happy hour after golf.

April 4th (Happy Easter )
We said good bye to the Brooks who are making their way back to Calgary. A 7.2 earthquake rocked our world at about 3:40 pm. Ralph and I were getting ready to go to Easter Dinner at the Resort and our 5th wheel started rocking. We didn't know what was happening until our neighbour told us it was a earthquake in Mexicali ,Mexico about 90 miles south of Hemet.
What an experience! No damage done here but big waves were seen in the 3 swimming pools.
Easter dinner went as planned with the resort supplying the hams.

April 5th (Happy Birthday Brian Regan)
A rainy day so we went shopping at the Hemet Mall. I bought a bathing suit and runners and Ralph got jeans. Jack and Marlene had us over for happy hour. Six of us went for Chinese food afterwards.

April 6th
Dave and Karen left for a week in Las Vegas before heading home to Leduc. Ralph and I cleaned the outside of the 5th wheel in the morning. We were ready for a soak in the hot tubs and pools afterwards. Warm, sunny 75 Deg. F.

April 7th
After Ralph made breakfast, we went shopping for groceries at Wal Mart and Stater Brothers.
We enjoyed today's hot temperatures of 85 Deg.F. around the pool area. We had a hamburger at the Palms Cafe with music from 11 am to 2 pm (local singer).Marie did laundry this evening.

Luau,Happy Hour & Golf--Mar.23-26

Hemet California March 23rd--30th

March 23rd
We did some grocery shopping in the morning and went for a swim in the pool in the afternoon.
John and Lynda Brooks arrived at 2:30p.m. from Yuma. We invited them for supper.

March 24th
We spent a relaxing day by the pools. Sixteen of us including the Brooks went to the Hawaiian Luau at the Palms Cabana at 4pm. Everything was decorated near the pools with Tiki statues,
torches, lanterns etc. It was beautiful. Mai Tai's were $2.00 each. We danced to a Hawaiian singer and had a very tasty Hawaiian meal. After dinner we were entertained by a show of three Hulu dancers and a male fire dancer. Lots of fun.

March 25th
I prepared a bunch of appetizers and had 14 people over for happy hour. Ron and Marlene Annala came over. It was a beautiful day. After supper we played shuffleboard with the Brooks. GVP has a indoor shuffleboard building with 8 lanes and spectator stands allowing us to play in the evening. Most resorts have outdoor shuffleboards courts.

March 26th (Happy 2nd Birthday Annika)
We went to Echo Hills golf course with the Brooks. We walked the 9 hole course with a pull cart
$12.00 each. Good exercise. Very warm 27 DegC. Our beautiful granddaughter Annika is now sitting up on her own(a great birthday gift).

Sat March 27th (Happy 84th Birthday Mom)
We walked around the Hemet Farmers' Market with the Brooks. Afterwards we drove out to the Winchester Market. Very interesting--mostly Mexican vendors with all their beans and legumes. We said goodbye to Ron and Marlene Annala. They leave tomorrow for Calgary. We visited with Karen & Dave and Jack & Marlene.

March 28th
The Brooks came with us to San Diego, leaving at 7:30am(1.5 hours form Hemet). We took a 2 hour harbour cruise at 10:00am. It was thoroughly enjoyable--thank goodness there was a bit of a breeze from the water because it was around 31 Deg. C. There were lots of aircraft carriers
(Nimitz,Ronald Regan), two submarines,a cruise ship, sea lions etc in the harbour. The Midway retired aircraft carrier was there. We will tour it another time. San Diego is the 2nd largest navel base in the USA. We had fish and chips on the waterfront. We drove across the 2.1 mile bridge to Coronado Island. Thousands of people were on the beach. We dipped our toes in the Pacific Ocean. Very cold. We got back to Hemet about 6:30pm.

March 29th
Another very hot day over 30 Deg. C. I laid around the pool and read while waiting for the laundry to dry. We are getting hummingbirds around our bird feeder. We stopped by Dave and Karen's(Leduc, Alberta) RV site before supper. We played shuffleboard with the Brooks.

March 30th
The Brooks picked us up and drove 1 hour north of Hemet past Beaumont to the hillside area Oak Glenn apple ranches. Beautiful mountain countryside with apple trees coming into blossom.
We had lunch at Apple Annie's Restaurant and stopped at different gift and craft stores. We bought some apple cider and fudge. We continued driving by the many orange, grapefruit, lemon orchards. They were hanging with fruit. We stopped and had a beer at San Jacinto Legion.
We played shuffleboard after supper. (Boys 5 games girls 1)
