Quartzsite to Tucson--- Jan.19th to 28th

On Jan.19th,Al & Diane Benner(Calgary) and their relatives from Red Deer came to visit us.We toured Quartzsite, had a free meatloaf lunch at La Mesa RV, and beers at Silly Al's Bar. After they went back to Yuma,we went with the Brook's to Grubstake for supper.

We bought a 7 foot fold -up ladder for our 5th wheel at the RV show. After the forecast for bad weather,we decided to stay longer in Quartzsite. The four of us went to Silly Al's for good pizza and great karoke entertainment the next evening.

We drove 30 miles to Blythe,California for some groceries. The major rainstorm and wind gusts of 65 miles/hour hit at 4p.m. Thursday the 21st.Arizona's governor declared a state of emergency---major snowfall in northern Arizona and heavy flooding in southern Arizona (in our area). Our RV's were definitely rocking but no damage.Scary! It calmed down about 7p.m.but continued to rain.

We packed up on the 23rd and drove 4-5 hours to Tucson. We are staying at the Wishing Well RV Park, Catalina 15 miles north of Tucson. Tucson is a very pretty city situated in a valley surrounded by 5 mountain ranges and 1 million people. There is lots to do in the area.

We toured the Titan Missile Museum -- a close up look at the 103 foot underground Titan 2 missile on standby for 24 years to deter nuclear war during the Cold War. They did a simulated missile launch for us in the underground control center. Thank goodness it never had to be used!

We drove 60 miles south to the Kartchner Caverns and toured the 2 "live" caves--the size of 3 football fields with many calcium formations(stalogmites, stalacllites, etc) formed in the limestone mountains over hundred of thousands of years. The caverns were discovered in 1974 and opened to the public in 1999 and 2003. Fascinating, educational and enjoyable!!!

On Tue. Jan. 26th the 4 of us went to The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum for the whole day and still did not see it all. The museum is a world renowned zoo, natural history museum, and botanical garden all in one place. It is mostly outdoor with indoor exhibits and demonstrations set in the Sonora Desert.Park rangers gave a one hour educational talk on the gila monster and the diamond back rattlesnake. We took photos of both the poisonous critters.Later we saw a demonstration with five Harris hawks soaring overhead. We saw mountain lions, bobcats, bighorn sheep, owls, etc.Lots of hummingbirds were in the aviary.Every kind of cactus was in the Cactus Garden. The winding road through the Tucson Mountains was a breathtaking scenic view with millions of cacti especially saguaro cactus. A warm 23 Deg. C. It was a great day.

Yesterday we went to the Pima Air and Space Museum toured the different hangers and did the boneyard tour at Davis-Monthan Air Force Bace (active base)25 acres with 4400 air craft. There was every type of aircraft possible.

Most evenings we play aggravation with the Brook's (the girls are even with the boys). It rained overnight and is still raining today. We are doing the Blog and laundry. Poor internet connections. Sorry for the delays.
